August 2, birthday of Catherine van Rennes

Catherine/Catharina van Rennes(1858 – 1940) was a Dutch composer, mainly of vocal works, and a music educator as well. While not an ardent feminist, she wrote the “Orange-Nassau-Cantata (opus 33)” The International Alliance meeting of the women’s suffrage movement held in Amsterdam in 1909. There aren’t any records of it, or anything else on Youtube, save for five vocal pieces. One of them, “Lullaby,” is really a gem. Something you’d want your old granny to sing you to sleep.
